The Woodward Dream Cruise is an annual automotive enthusiast event held in the northern suburbs of Detroit. Held each year on the third Saturday in August, the Cruise runs along Woodward Avenue, a major thoroughfare in the region, from Ferndale to Pontiac. It costs $40 to participate and the registration link can be found here. Participants can pre-register or sign up on the day of the race at the high school.
Car enthusiasts can enjoy some classic cars before the main event from noon to 7 p.m. Even though the Dream Cruise has not officially started, there is no shortage of classic cars to watch. Today is no exception as tailgaters are lined up along the route and everything from muscle cars to old-time classics have hit the street.

Prior to the organizing of the Dream Cruise residents of the west side of Detroit and the western Detroit suburban communities had been cruising Woodward Avenue since the 1940s. The ad hoc cruising caused traffic jams on many summer evenings, automobile accidents and included many cruisers drinking and driving. With the organizing of the Dream Cruise most of these bad influences simply disappeared.
Visitors will be able to purchase food, and official Woodward Dream Cruise merchandise all day. Parking for this event can be found in one of six Birmingham parking structures; metered parking will also be available. Nine Oakland County cities participate along a 16-mile radius of Woodward.
